Safari Ball - The Story of Castform

Welcome to Safari Ball, a field guide series that explores how Pokémon evolve through behavior, emotion, and environment.
Some Pokémon grow by evolving. Others change by surviving.
Castform, the Weather Pokémon, doesn’t evolve like most others. But don’t let that fool you. Its entire life is shaped by transformation. Wandering alone through open fields, it carries a soft, shifting body and an even softer heart. Castform isn’t just reacting to the world around it, it’s mirroring it. Just like we do when we’re trying to fit in, protect ourselves, or feel safe.
Whether the sun shines, the rain pours, or the cold sets in, Castform feels something new and becomes someone new.
Castform (Normal Form)
“Castform borrows the power of nature to transform itself into the guises of the sun, rain clouds, and snow clouds. This Pokémon's feelings change with the weather.”
—Pokémon Sapphire
In calm weather, Castform drifts gently across grassy plains and open meadows. Its soft, cloud-like body bobs through the air, almost like it’s floating on a breeze only it can feel. According to the Pokémon Ruby Pokédex, “This Pokémon gained the ability to use the vast power of nature to protect its tiny body.”
Emotionally, this form reflects stillness, not happiness or sadness, just peace. Castform feels light, neutral, open. The world isn’t asking much of it right now, so it floats freely in the quiet. This is like sitting outside on a cloudy afternoon when nothing feels rushed. You’re not in a hurry. You’re just here.
Its Forecast ability makes it deeply aware of change before it happens. And unlike many other Pokémon, Castform’s soft body can always be touched, not too hot, not too cold. It invites closeness. Even in its most neutral form, it stays open to connection.
This stage reminds us of how it feels to be sensitive in a world that doesn’t always slow down for us. Castform may not always know who it is, but it always knows what the world needs.

Sunny Form
"Castform changes to this form when it basks in bright sunlight. When you touch its glowing skin, it feels all dried out!"
—Pokémon Ultra Moon
When the sun blazes overhead, Castform warms up from the inside out. Its head glows orange like a miniature sun, and its body becomes hot to the touch. Its biology shifts so quickly that even its skin dries out. In Pokémon Moon, researchers observed that “its body is warm and toasty.” But don’t get too close, Ultra Moon warns that “when you touch its glowing skin, it feels all dried out!”
Emotionally, Sunny Form reflects excitement. Castform feels energized, confident, maybe even a little overstimulated like it wants to be seen and shine back just as brightly. Think of how it feels when you finally get noticed after working hard or someone compliments your outfit. You glow. The tiny orbs that appear around its head look like it’s trying to shine back at the world that’s finally noticing it.
Sunny Form symbolizes what it’s like to feel seen, to be celebrated for who you are. Even when it’s radiating heat, Castform stays touchable. It lets the world feel its warmth, a living reminder that joy doesn't have to push people away.

Rainy Form
“This is the form Castform takes when soaked with rain. When its body is compressed, water will seep out as if from a sponge.”
—Pokémon Sun
Raindrops aren’t just water to Castform, they’re an invitation to let go. When soaked, its head becomes a teardrop shape, and its body grows soft and slippery like a sponge. The Pokémon Ultra Sun Pokédex says “its body is soft and slightly swollen with water,” and Moon adds, “its body retains moisture and gets slippery.”
Emotionally, Rainy Form holds sadness, not despair, but that slow, heavy kind of feeling that makes you quiet. Castform absorbs the mood around it, letting the weight sink in rather than brushing it off. It’s like walking home under an umbrella after a long day, tired, thoughtful, and maybe a little teary, but still moving forward.
Touching this form feels like holding a sponge that’s full of feeling. Castform doesn’t hide from the emotion. It soaks it in, showing us that sometimes, being soft is how we stay strong.
💧 Curious about the calm, adaptable nature of a Water-type?
Snowy Form
“This is the form Castform takes when hit by hail. In an experiment where it was placed in a freezer, it didn't change to this form.”
—Pokémon Ultra Sun
When hail begins to fall, Castform doesn’t flee. It freezes. Its body becomes ice-like and smooth, holding temperatures near 23°F. Its head shifts to a bluish-purple, and the rest becomes a mint-colored cumulonimbus cloud. According to Pokémon Ultra Moon, “Its whole body is chilled, and its skin is partially frozen.”
Emotionally, this form reflects withdrawal. When things get too cold, emotionally or physically, Castform protects itself by going still. It doesn’t lash out. It conserves. This is what it feels like when you're in a fight with someone you care about, you don't want to say the wrong thing, so you stay quiet, frozen in your thoughts.
Even here, Castform can still be held. Its icy skin is smooth, not spiky. Unlike many Ice-type Pokémon that repel touch, Castform remains reachable, even when it's cold.
❄️ Curious about quiet strength and emotional resilience?
Castform used Weather Ball
Castform’s transformations aren’t acts of choice, they’re acts of adaptation. Its Forecast ability doesn’t just predict what’s coming; it transforms Castform to face it. That’s what makes this Pokémon so special. And what’s more, it stays soft enough to touch through it all. That’s rare. Many Pokémon become too hot, too cold, or too wild to hold when they change. But Castform stays close and touchable.
Castform reminds us that being sensitive is not a flaw, it’s a gift. Its feelings change with the weather, just like ours do with our environment, moods, and relationships. Whether you’re glowing with joy, soaking with sorrow, or quiet from overwhelm, Castform shows that adapting doesn’t mean losing yourself. It means staying present.
And like Castform, maybe we all reflect the world a little more than we realize.
